2021 Outings
September 16-20, 2021: Rogue River Steelhead & Trout, Shady Cove OR Skill Level: 3-4 Fishmistress: Amy Pilkington, amy_pilkington@yahoo.com Join us for three days of fly fishing on the dynamic Rogue River out of Shady Cove, Oregon! We will be fishing with Jack Jermain and his great guides out of The Fishin' Hole (https://www.thefishinholeflyshop.com/). Arrive Monday, September 16, fish the 17th, 18th, and 19th, leave on the 20th. There are four spaces available (eight total); cost is $495. per boat per day ($250./person per day, not including guide tips). There is also a one-time charge of $30. for a dozen flies. My hubby, Andy, is joining us; we are staying at the rustic Royal Coachman (website: http://www.royalcoachmanmotel.com/index.html, room rate sheet: http://www.royalcoachmanmotel.com/rooms_and_rates.htm). They have three rooms on the water, we are staying in #19, room #2o is still available and there are several other cottage-type rooms available as well. There is also the Edgewater Inn for those who favor lodging that is a bit fancier (https://edgewaterinns.com/edgewater-inn-shady-cove/). It is an ~6.5-hour drive from the Bay Area, and the Medford OR Airport is a close 30-minutes drive from Shady Cove as quicker travel option. Apologies for the short notice -- but rest assured this will be an annual, or likely biannual excursion! Mid-October 2021: Red Fish in Louisiana Skill Level: 3-4 Fishmistress: Fanny Krieger, fannykrieger@mac.com Fall is a great time to catch the bigger migratory bull redfish which are 20 to 30+ pounds and you have to use a 9 or 10-weight rod. We’ll be staying at the Dogwood Lodge located in Hopedale, Louisiana. There are 6 rooms on the boat, so we can do single occupancy rooms, and then that way our group would have the entire lodge to ourselves if we have a group of 6 ladies. November 2021: Trinity River Steelhead, CA Skill Level: 2-3 Fishmistress: Join us on the Trinity River in Northern California. The Trinity can be fished by floating with a guide or by wading. Both a California fishing license and steelhead card are required. We will be staying at the Indian Creek Lodge (www.iclodge.net) in Douglas City, right on a beautiful stretch of the Trinity River in the heart of renowned steelhead and salmon runs. |
GWWF Outings Policy
All members who sign up for GWWF trips are required to provide payment for the full cost of the trip at the time of reservation (unless specifically noted otherwise). If a member is subsequently not able to attend, it is her responsibility, and not that of the Outings Chair or Fishmistress, to find a replacement to cover her costs. Anyone Can Be A Fishmistress! If you'd like to share a favorite spot, or spearhead an exploration to a new one, all it takes is a call to Outings Chair Loretta Strickland, and she'll help you organize it. No special skills are required – just pick a place, and be the contact person. Outings Skill Level Legend: 1. Absolute Beginner: Come and learn from other members. 2. Advanced Beginner: Minimal casting skills and gear required. Easy walking and wading. Fishing advice cheerfully provided, but you must be able to fish on your own. 3. Intermediate: Good casting skills and fishing experience required. 4. Advanced: Tougher conditions; well developed or specialized skills are suggested for best results. Skill Levels If you are wondering whether you with your skill level would be fine on an outing, please contact the Fishmistress. She can provide more details on the outing. Thank You! Thanks to all who completed and submitted the outings survey. A special thanks to those who volunteered to be fishmistresses. The Outings committee is working with those fishmistresses to get the 2019 outings finalized so that they can be communicated to you. The findings of the Outings Survey are summarized in the April newsletter. You can contact Fanny Krieger, Outings Chair at fannykrieger@mac.com |
